CUSIP and ISIN Services
A CUSIP (Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures) is a unique 9-digit identification number. It is used to create a concise distinction between securities (assigned to all stocks and registered bonds) in North America, that trade on the market. The numbers aid in facilitating trades and settlements due to the consistent identification of the securities within the trade.
An ISIN (International Securities Identification Number) is a 12-digit alphanumeric code known as the International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) which identifies a specific security. ISINs are used for and not limited to, clearing and settlement ensuring a consistent format for tracking holdings of institutional investors.
